Lucean Knecole: Born from Passion

Lucean Knecole, formerly Lucy Sandals JA, is the brainchild of Lucean Slater, a self-taught artisan and sole proprietor of this woman-owned business. At just eight years old, Slater crafted her first pair of sandals, igniting a lifelong passion for footwear design.

This early spark grew into a flame as Slater drew inspiration from diverse global styles, envisioning and reimagining footwear that blended local Jamaican flair with international appeal.

As a single mother and college student in Kingston, Jamaica, Slater faced financial struggles. However, these challenges only fueled her determination to turn her passion into a business. With the encouragement of family and friends, Slater mastered sandal-making, combining YouTube tutorials, local artisan guidance, and hands-on experimentation.

Launching Lucy Sandals JA in 2015 with just two styles, Lucean has grown the brand into a global sensation, now handcrafting over 68 stunning designs using premium materials. In April 2024, Lucy Sandals JA underwent a transformative rebranding, emerging as Lucean Knecole.
